Philosophy of Technology in the Classroom
Technology is a tool. My goal as a teacher is to use this tool to help students and teachers to think critically, learn life long skills to aid in learning, to develop strategies to problem solve, and to achieve their potential in an information rich world.
We are told over and over again that America’s children are not achieving as a whole as well as others in the world. My job as an educator is to use all the tools I have to help the children and teachers in my class achieve their fullest potential. To use the technology available to me to help them achieve is fulfilling my job. Students have computers, cell phones, game consuls, and other assorted devices that can aid them in their development. The computer is one we have focused on in schools and one that can be used to help students communicate in ways not available as readily in older instruments. Allowing students to communicate with others in remote areas to practice speaking skills they are shy to use in front of those who know them allows them to learn in their comfort zone. Students are able to use the computer to learn at individual rates and in their learning style easier than ever before. The computer is a tool for students and teachers and my job is to share various ways to explore the uses of this tool.
The use of the computer has provided many ways children can learn in their comfort zone and in their learning style. I provide for my students and teachers what I can to help them to achieve their potential. As an educator I use the tools provided to me to help my students and teachers achieve more.
